Mr.
Sadeque Hossain Khoka was born on 12 May
1952 in a respectable Muslim family in Dhaka,
Bangladesh. His father late M.A. Karim was an
engineer and renowned social worker. Mr. Khoka
obtained M.A. Degree in Psychology from Dhaka
University.From student life, Mr. Sadeque Hossain
Khoka actively took part in various political
activities. He carried out the responsibility
of Secretary of the "City Unit (South)
of the then East Pakistan Student Union and
Member of Central Committee. He actively participated
against the movement of Ayub Regime in 1968-69.
During the Liberation War of Bangladesh he actively
participated after training under Sector-2.
During the Independent War, he led many operations
within the Dhaka City.
Renowned Freedom Fighter, Mr. Sadeque Hossain
Khoka successfully worked as Senior Vice
Chairman of "Muktijodha Sangsad" Central
Command in 1979. As a notable sports organizer,
he took over responsibility of "Brothers
Union" sports Club from 1972 to 1977; worked
as Secretary of the Club in 1978, also engaged
in various activities in sports of the country
and represented Bangladesh in the Asian Football
Confederation Conference held in Canton, China
in 1984. He was General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan
Football Association (DMFA) Joint General Secretary
of Bangladesh Football Federation during 1979-1984
period. He represented Bangladesh in Asian Olympic
Committee meeting, held in Kuwait and attended
the Commonwealth Games Federation meeting in
Canada, 1993. He received "Remarkable Sports
Organizer" award from Bangladesh Government
in 2004. At present he hold the chair of Governing
Body of Brothers Union Club, Wanders Club, Farashganj
Club and chief patron of Rahmatganj Club. Muktijodha
Krira Chakra is established by his initiatives.
He is founder Secretary of "Little Friends
Club" and life member of "Wari Club".
He was the Chairman of Youth & Sports Ministry
and National Sports Council during the period
1991 to 1996. He attended as team leader of
Bangladesh in Commonwealth Games, Kuala Lumpur,
1992. He successfully organized 6th SAF Game
in Dhaka, 1993. 5300 seated international standard
centralair conditioned Indoor Stadium was build
in Dhaka when was in charge of Sports Ministry.
Educational Institution "Mitali Bidhapith" was established by personal initiative of Mr.
Khoka. In 1995, National Medical upgraded as
Medical College by his assistance. At present,
he is Governing body Chairman of Jubli School
& College, Ahmed Baoani Academy, Fazlul
Haq Women College, National Medical College
and Mohanagar Women College. Mr. Sadeque Hossain
Khoka was elected Municipal Commissioner in
1979 and hard hearted worked for the development
of the area. In 2002, he was elected as Chairman
of Bangladesh Flying Academy and General Aviation
Limited (Flying Club).Mr. Sadeque Hossain Khoka
joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in
1984 and held the rank of Assistant Organizing
Secretary of the Central Committee and Vice
Chairman of the City Committee of BNP. He was
elected City Commissioner in 1997 and contributed
a lot for the development.
Mr. Sadeque Hossain Khoka was elected Parliament
Member in 1991 general election from Dhaka City
Constituency-7. He was sworn in as a State Minister
in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda
Zia on 17 May, 1991 and allotted the Portfolio
of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. During
his period 1.7 million workless young man &
woman were trained up as per service oriented
training.
Mr. Sadeque Hossain Khoka, anominee of BNP
was re-elected Member of Parliament in general
elections held in February and June 1996. As
president of Dhaka City Unit of BNP, he led
all the democratic movements in the capital
during the past government and in the process
he was subjected to inhuman tortures, harassment
and innumerable cases.
Mr. Sadeque Hossain Khoka was elected
Member of Parliament in the 8th parliamentary
elections held under a Caretaker government
on 1 October, 2001 and after 10 days he was
appointed Minister in the Cabinet of the government
of present Prime Minister. Then he assumed office
as Minister of Fisheries & Livestock.
He became elected as Mayor of Dhaka City
Corporation on 25th April, 2002 by a general
election. During his period, he has taken step
for the financial matter of Dhaka City Corporation
in a discipline & stable position. Moreover
enormous development work-like road, footpath,
Drain development & maintenance, Social
& cultural works, street light, conservancy,
geographic information system, mosquito control
works are increasing now. Dhaka became beautiful
and Green City day by day. His active participation
in many International Arena like- "Earth
Quake and Megacity" conference in Shanghai,
"World Mayors Summit" in Moscow, Water
& Cities Theme Events" in Japan, "Pro-Poor
and Sustainable Urban Water and Waste Water
Management" in Thailand, "World Summit
on Information" in France & Switzerland,
"Mayors for Peace" in New York etc.
helped to understand all about his farsightedness
for the multi-directional development of the
City. Moreover he attended in many conferences
in USA, UK, Saudi Arab & so on.
He is father of one daughter and two sons.
