The number
of vehicles in the city is increasing manifolds. The incessant traffic flow on
the roads has virtually made it impossible for pedestrians to cross the roads
as well as create the traffic jams in the city. In view of this the DCC has
contracted of overhead pedestrians bridges.

Jatrabari-
Gulistan Fly Over
The
Jatrabari-Gulistan fly over is very much important in considering traffic congestion
of important location and economic viability of
Dhaka
City. After
the completion of this fly over, traffic congestion of south and southeast part
of the city will be minimized and commercial activities will be increased
significantly. Improved road communication system will be developed with
adjoining 30 districts with
Dhaka
City.
Urbanization opportunity and residential uses surrounding 50 km of the city
will be increased, and reduce tremendous pressure of utility service such as
electricity, gas, sewerage etc and will decrease population pressure of the
city also. The fly over between Jatrabari and Gulistan would be 7 km long and
will cover a vast area, including parts of Chittagong-Narayangonj-Mawa High
Ways, Demra, Gulistan, DIT Avenue, Sayedabad Bus Terminal, Dayagonj, 2nd
Buriganga Bridge and Motijheet-Tikatuly Road. The construction cost of the fly
over will be about 67 milion Taka funded by the private investors.
The
construction and maintenance cost will be recovered through the tool collection
from the users of the fly over. It will be constructed through Build Own
Operate and Transfer (BOOT) system. Construction of this four-lane fly over
will take 3 years to complete. Moreover, it would be a permanent source of
income of DCC.
