Project:
Ward Based Solid Waste Management Program involving NGOs & CBOs
Dhaka City Corporation is extending their logistic support to a
NGO named Sheltech Consultant Pvt. Ltd. to initiate pilot project entitled "Solid Waste Management in Dhanmondi Residential
Area" at ward no.-49 located in Dhanmondi.
The
main activities of this pilot project are as follows:
- Door to
door garbage collection from concern houses in a particular time notified
earlier by the NGOs.
- Disposal
of waste in DCCs nearest dustbin/ container.
- Segregation
of waste (Organic, Inorganic and Clinical Waste).
- Promote
public awareness campaign
Terms and condition of the project:
- The project will be executed on
pilot basis for one year.
- No financial support will be given
to the concern NGOs.
- DCC conservancy staffs will extend
their support to the NGOs
- Concern NGOs should dispose the
collected to the DCC's earmarked dustbin/container. If any new dustbin or
container is required, they should get permission from DCC, which has to be
built from their own cost
The pilot
project in Dhanmondi Residential area (ward no.-49) has been started from
October 2001. In the mean time seven more wards i,e. 22, 36, 39, 40, 45, 54
& 56 have been covered under this program involving NGOs named 1)
Association for Integrated Development, 2) Somonnita Shishu Saishtho Sangstha,
3) Rozobennesa Welfare Foundation, 4) Economic Development Association, 5)
Welfare Association foe Rootless, 6) Association for Poverty Alleviation and
Nature Conservation, and 7) Society for Project Implementation Research
Evaluation and Training respectively. They will start their activities in
concern wards by the end of July 2002.

respectively under the umbrella of NGO named Bangladesh Integrated Environmental
Development Forum. In the mean time 49 more wards have been undertaken under
this program involving NGOs under Urban Planning Department. Now this project
has been handed over to the Conservancy Drpartment.
Private Solid Waste Management Private Solid Waste
Management in
Dhaka
City is a new approach.
Recently Dhaka City Corporation fully privatizes its conservancy works in
Uttara, Gullshan , Banani, Baridara, Mohakali and Tejgaon areas. These areas
cover the northern part of the city , zone 9.10 the private parties are
handling this works very smoothly. Tow NGOs and tow private contractors are
responsible to run the project properly. The Urban Planning Department
introduced this project for the first time. Then the project was handed over to
the Conservancy Department of DCC. The Private parties do the street sweeping.
Drain cleaning. Door-to-door waste collection, dustbin cleaning and waste
transportation and final DISPOSAL OF THE WARDS No.1,17,18,19,20,21,37,and 38. |
